Paula Kramer is an artist-researcher based in Berlin. Her work focuses on tracing, investigating and replenishing intermateriality in site-specific movement practices and choreography. She collaborates with materials and organisms of many different orders – as active agents in the making of movement, performance and choreography, and as partners in the creation of daily life and sense-making.

She completed her artistic PhD Dancing Materiality at Coventry University (UK) in 2015, followed by a three-year post-doctoral position at the Centre for Artistic Research (CfAR) at Uniarts Helsinki (FI) (2016 – 2019). As a movement artist and dancer she has studied extensively with Helen Poynor, Bettina Mainz and Suprapto Suryodarmo. Currently she is working on several independent projects, including conversations with contemporary pioneers of outdoor dance practices (funded by Fonds Darstellende Künste) as well as supporting choreographer Katja Münker’s participatory outdoor piece Schrittweise (premiere in Sept. 2022, Berlin). She publishes widely in the field of artistic research through bodily practices and is a board member of the Journal of Dance and Somatic Practices. Her artist book Suomenlinna // Gropius – two Contemplations on Body, Movement and Intermateriality came out in 2021 (Triarchy Press, UK).

She will participate in the Cross-Disciplinary Symposium.
